Brief description |
Our world is moving ever closer together at the present time. Our media enable us to find out a great deal about the living habits, culture and religions of people from other countries. During this process, traditional folk music is becoming ever more important. On his new CD, Peter Korbel shows how rich and variegated folksongs and children's songs can be.
Peter Korbel's work Lejos me voy de aqui, after which this CD is named, is at the centre of this album, which consists of folksongs and children's songs from all over the world. During the composition of this song, it became clear that many Arab melodies have similar tonal material to those from Israel and parts of Asia. Musicians from these countries could play together without any problem at all. Thus the following question is raised: if something can be realised in music, why wouldn't it be possible in the area of world politics? For this reason, Lejos me voy de aqui bears the hopeful subtitle A Piece For Peace.
Peter Korbel also lends a personal touch to other traditional melodies and gives them a new form. For example, the introduction and coda in the song Los Pollos remind the listener of a chicken coop, and the Greek song Du kommst nicht vorbei, Maria becomes a small concert piece in a new arrangement. One can also hear Peter Korbel's romantic side, as shown in the song Weißt Du, wie viel Sternlein stehen with its tremolo in the middle section. |
